Senior year only happens once. Their portraits should capture more than what they look like—they should celebrate exactly who they are at this moment in their life.
At Tonya Bolton Photography, every senior portrait session is designed around the individual. Their personality. Their style. Their interests. The things that make them them.
From wardrobe planning and professional hair and makeup to location selection and expert posing, I’ll guide you through every detail so neither you nor your senior has to figure it out alone.
The result? An unforgettable experience and senior portraits they’ll actually be excited to show off.
No cookie-cutter poses. No trying to make your senior fit someone else’s idea of what senior pictures are supposed to look like.
The athlete. The musician. The gamer. The artist. The dancer. The car enthusiast. The kid who lives in cowboy boots—or the one who wouldn’t be caught dead wearing them.
Bring the dog. The drum set. The football. The guitar. The car. The best friend.
We’ll build their senior session around who they are right now because years from now, these photographs shouldn’t just remind you what your child looked like during senior year.
They should remind you exactly who they were.
You shouldn’t have to become a stylist, location scout and photography expert just because your child is graduating.
I’ll help you plan the entire session.
We’ll talk through wardrobe, colors, accessories, locations and the overall look your senior wants. For girls, professional hair and makeup is included so they arrive camera-ready while still looking like themselves.
And when it’s time to step in front of the camera? I’ll take care of that too.
Your senior doesn’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide them through movement, expressions and posing from beginning to end so they can relax, have fun and feel confident.
You get to enjoy watching your child have their moment.
I’ll worry about everything else.
Downtown and edgy. Natural and romantic. Bold and colorful. Urban and architectural. Or somewhere completely unexpected.
Choosing the right location is part of creating senior portraits that feel personal.
I’ve photographed seniors throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky and know how to pair locations with wardrobe, personality and the look we’re creating.
Have something completely different in mind? Even better.
Some of my favorite sessions have taken us far beyond Cincinnati. If there’s a place that’s meaningful to your senior—or you simply want something no one else in their class has—let’s talk about it.
Not sure what kind of setting fits your senior? Take a look at a couple of my favorite Cincinnati locations and see what inspires you.
Senior portraits don’t have to mean dressing up and posing for two hours.
For guys, we’ll build the session around what they’re into—sports, cars, music, gaming, the outdoors or simply a great urban location and a few outfits they actually feel good wearing.
I’ll keep things moving, tell them exactly what to do and make the experience painless—even for the senior who only agreed to this because Mom made him.
And Mom?
You’ll have photographs of your son from this chapter of his life that you’ll be very glad you didn’t skip.
We’ll start by planning the details together—from wardrobe and locations to your senior’s interests and the overall look of the session. For girls, we’ll also plan professional hair and makeup so everything feels coordinated.
On portrait day, I’ll guide them through everything. We’ll create multiple looks, change locations when appropriate, and I’ll direct every pose and expression so they never have to wonder what to do.
After the session, we’ll meet again to choose the photographs you love most and decide how you’d like to enjoy them—from beautiful albums and prints to finished artwork for your home.
These photographs deserve to live somewhere other than your phone.
Together, we’ll choose the images you love most and create finished pieces designed to be enjoyed long after graduation day—from beautiful albums that tell the story of their senior year to portraits you’ll be proud to display in your home.
Because someday, when the cap and gown have been packed away and they’ve built a life of their own, these photographs become something entirely different.
They become part of your family’s history.
When should we book senior pictures?
I recommend booking during your student’s junior year whenever possible. Summer and fall dates are especially popular, so planning early gives you the best selection of dates and plenty of time to use the photographs for graduation announcements, yearbooks and gifts.

What time of year is best for senior portraits in Cincinnati?
There really isn’t one perfect season. Summer gives us long evenings and lush greenery, fall brings beautiful color, winter can create dramatic urban or studio portraits, and spring is perfect for seniors who want fresh color and blooms. We’ll choose the timing that best fits the look your senior wants.
What should my senior wear?
You don’t have to figure that out alone. Wardrobe planning is part of the experience. I’ll help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully, coordinate with our locations and, most importantly, still feel like your senior.
How many outfits should they bring?
We’ll plan several looks together based on the session, locations and your senior’s style. I generally recommend variety rather than simply bringing more clothes—something polished, something casual and looks that show their personality give us more to work with.
Do you help choose senior portrait locations?
Absolutely. Location planning is part of the experience. Whether your senior wants downtown Cincinnati, greenery, the riverfront, something edgy and colorful or a location that’s completely personal to them, I’ll help us find the right setting for the photographs we’re creating.
Is professional hair and makeup included?
Professional hair and makeup is included for girls. It’s not about making your senior look like someone else—it’s about helping her feel polished, camera-ready and confident while still looking like herself.
My senior hates having their picture taken. Can you help?
Yes—and they’re definitely not the first. Your senior doesn’t need to know how to pose or what to do in front of the camera. I’ll guide their posing, expressions and movement throughout the session so they can relax instead of worrying about how they look.
Do you photograph senior guys?
Absolutely. For guys, I keep the experience relaxed and build the session around their personality and interests—sports, cars, music, gaming, the outdoors or simply a great location and a few outfits they feel good wearing.
Can we include their car, pet, sport or hobby?
Please do! Those are often the details that make a senior session memorable. Cars, pets, sports, musical instruments and other interests help us create photographs that tell the story of who your senior is right now.
Where is your studio located?
My studio is located at 649 York Street in Newport, Kentucky, just minutes from downtown Cincinnati. I photograph high school seniors throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky and also travel for destination senior sessions.

Soon the graduation announcements will arrive, the cap and gown will come out and they’ll be walking toward whatever comes next.
Let’s make sure you have more than a yearbook picture to remember who they were before they went.
Let’s create senior portraits you’ll both be proud of.
